Bugoutbag
Five reasons may not be enough , however here are five reason you can get used to using, and understand the usefulness of, the “bug out bag”.

 1. Natural Disasters

I live in the mid-west. 3 to 4 am Tornado sirens are always happening when you least expect it.  The ease of the bag fully packed for your needs ,will save tremendous time. When those alarms are going off and you need to go now you may be in a panic state, you won’t be thinking long term . That can apply to any disaster really and, in the end, minutes count. If you are forced to evacuate or your home dwelling is now deemed unlivable, at least you have a few thing to hold you for a week till you sort out whats going to happen next.

  2. Road Trips

Road trips can bring in their own set of issues but minimizing your risk is always your priority . Having that bug out bag in the trunk or behind the seat with a few extra gallons of water and a map would be a great start. For work or pleasure as soon as you leave the city to get on the open road anything can happen. It could be mechanical troubles , weather , or just getting stuck on the side of the road.  Having “the Bag” would help you stay warm, hydrated and fed so you can wait till morning or until help arrives. The map would be beneficial if you were only a few miles away from a town (and wanted to go for help), but it may be wiser to stay with your vehicle since it would be easier spotted.

 3. Hiking

Hiking is always a fun way to enjoy nature, and get exercise at the same time . When I hike, I always bring a bug out bag containing only my “must-have” items to ensure that it isn’t too much weight to lug around. My number one item is Water, next on the list is an upgraded hikers first-aid kit.  Third is calorie dense food and/or snacks. I probably couldn’t count - on both my hands - the number of times I ran across a hiker with a sprained ankle, heat exhaustion, or who didn’t think they needed to bring water on the “short hike”.  Some times you are the first responder, like it or not. If this happens to you and you have your kit with you, you minimize the risk to yourself.
